News from Overdene House

We are moving ever closer to the end of the year: sleeps to Santa are reducing drastically, clocks have gone back, and the leaves are falling. I’m a great fan of the autumn. The ever-changing colours of the trees can be just breathtakingly beautiful. And at this time of the year the light can be perfect to take great photographs.

We all gained an extra hour when the clocks went back but, of course, that means the arrival of longer nights. We should welcome the time to catch up on our reading, sort out all those old photographs, and do many of the little jobs that we have been putting off all summer. And best of all you can get cosy in front of the fire on Saturday nights and watch Ann Widdecombe on Strictly – she’s going to be there for some time yet!

So, what’s new from Overdene House this month?

Charity Golf day
Andrew Gray recently took part in a Charity Golf Day in aid of BIBS – a charity supporting the families of premature babies born in the neonatal ward of the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading. The event raised £2,135 and was organised by Finch Commercial Insurance Brokers.

I believe many of the golfers were ‘fair weather golfers’ only, but despite the heavy rain on the day they still turned out to support the event. The photograph below shows (left to right) Jeff Cahill, Andrew Gray, Paul Finch and Jim Adkins.

FREE Sage Hints & Tips workshop – File and data maintenance
Following on from our successful bookkeeping update event in July, we will be holding a Free Sage Hints & Tips workshop on Tuesday 23 November. The Workshop is aimed at users of Sage 50 and will also be useful to Sage Instant users. The session will run from 10.00 to 12.00. More information and details of how to book your place can be found here. We are delighted to have secured the services of June Horne from Sage to run this workshop on our behalf.

Business Development Workshop
Your final opportunity for 2010 to attend our Business Development Workshop. This will be held on Wednesday 24 November here at our offices in Theale. This workshop provides an introduction to four key areas that we work on with our clients: using accounts, saving tax, and improving profitability and business development using E-Myth principles. We get really good feedback on these BDWs and have already received a number of bookings, so if you would like to attend please let me know as soon as possible.
