Tax Advice from Andy Scott |
 |
This month I'd like to talk about 3 subjects. Firstly, and in line with Pauline's focus on the credit crunch (see below), I've got some ideas for you concerning how you can reward key employees more tax efficiently than simply using the tried and tested bonus and dividend method.
http://www.kandh.co.uk/news_articles/290708_01.htm
Secondly, with mortgage costs rising and the housing market slumping I have advice on how to reclaim VAT and save money for those of you who are building your own home, or converting non-domestic properties.
http://www.kandh.co.uk/news_articles/290708_02.htm
Finally, employers who employ homeworkers take note, the guideline rate that employers can pay employees, free of tax and NIC, for working at home has increased from £2 per week to £3 per week. Although this is not the maximum rate that can be paid over to employees who regularly work from home, it is a guideline rate that can be paid without the need for the employee to provide records or the employer having to justify it. The payments can be higher where there is clear evidence to justify it

My Business Update |
|
We seem to be hearing more and more about the Credit Crunch these days. There is some evidence that the media are over-hyping it and the following survey that appeared on the E-Myth website seems to back that up. Read more at http://www.kandh.co.uk/news_articles/220708_01.htm
However, if you are feeling the pinch here is a useful guide to Cost Cutting, which gives sensible, quick and easy ideas on areas to target.
http://www.kandh.co.uk/news_articles/220708_02.htm
And last but not least, making sure you Get Paid on Time is vital, particularly for small businesses for whom healthy cash flow is critical. We have come up with a number of ideas that have been proven to work, ranging from simple ones such as prompt payment discounts, to the more unusual ones such as entering the details of prompt payers into a prize draw.

The Green Office |

|
It's no longer fashionable to be green, it's essential. Thankfully more and more of us are realising that being green does not have to be expensive and may actually work out cheaper in the long run.
We are keen to promote environmental awareness and have set up a new Green Business page on our website www.kandh.co.uk/green_news.htm We will be adding ideas and articles aimed at helping businesses to save money and help the environment, so please keep checking.
At k&h we have recently upped the amount we recycle by installing a number of different recycling bins, and we have found that everyone, without exception, is making the effort to use them. |
We are always trying to improve our standards here at K&H and recently the whole team got together for a Growth Strategy Day where we brainstormed every conceivable idea that we could think of to improve our service and also help the environment. We came up with many suggestions which we will be implementing - some small, eg composting fruit peelings and tea bags, some not so small like the team outing to The Seychelles which alas has been put on hold! If you have any ideas that you would like to share with us, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Our next Business Builder Forum (BBF) will be on Tuesday 9 September. These forums allow business owners to get together over a light breakfast to develop and share business ideas. The topic in September is How to be Debt Free in 7 years, or Surviving the Credit Crunch.
For full details including venue and how to book click www.kandh.co.uk/bbf.htm
Our next Business Development Workshop (BDW) will be on Wednesday 24 September at our offices in Theale. These workshops provide an introduction to 4 key areas that we work on with our clients: using accounts, saving tax, improving profitability and business development using E-Myth principles.
