Even if you don’t want to sell right now – building a business that is sellable is a good idea.

Preparing your business for sale now will make it more attractive to potential buyers when the time finally comes to move on, ensuring you get the best possible price and reap the rewards of a lifetime’s work. And it will also make it far more likely that you receive an unsolicited offer ‘out of the blue’.

We are taking bookings for places at the event ‘Built to Sell: How to start to build a business you can sell’, at the Hilton Hotel, near East Midlands Airport, Castle Donington, on Tuesday 7th December.

The keynote speaker will be John Warrillow, entrepreneur and author of Built to Sell, who has successfully built and sold four companies, so he is well placed to offer plenty of practical tips and advice. Andrew Gray, Chairman of K&H, has written about John’s work on a number of occasions. See his recent blog on the ‘Business Sellability Test’.

The event runs from 11am to 4pm and costs £125 per place.

The Business Development Workshop is designed to give our new clients, prospective clients and any other business owners an opportunity to start to understand exactly what they need to know to take their business to where they want it to go.

Our Business Development Workshop is planned to help make sure that your business becomes ever more successful and is specifically designed to give our clients, prospective clients, business owners, and those who advise them, an opportunity to really start to understand what they need to know to take their business to where they want it to go.

The Business Development Workshop is a very informal, half-day training session aimed at ambitious owners of small businesses, and their advisors, who want to know how to:

understand and use accounts

save tax

work out their growth potential

apply E-Myth principles (by watching a video of Michael Gerber)

It is divided into four sections, led by our directors.

Session 1 Interpreting the Numbers – Pauline Williamson
Most business owners do not understand the information in their accounts, according to national research by AVN. At K&H, we want to ensure that our clients make the most of their accounts, and can access this valuable information.

We will review a set of real accounts and help you to see the problems the business will face if it makes no changes.

Session 2 Taxability – Andrew Scott
One of our missions is to help our clients to pay less tax. We take you through a process of identifying your tax strengths and weaknesses and give you tips to ensure you pay the minimum tax possible.

Session 3 Simple Stuff That Works – Andrew Gray
SSTW is an interactive, multimedia software tool that helps business owners grow their sales and profits. It features video clips of real business owners explaining how they have used a range of practical ideas and learned new skills to help them grow and develop their businesses.

Session 4 Why most small businesses don’t work and what to do about it? – Andrew Gray
This session is based on the seven-point business development process developed by Michael Gerber, author of The E-Myth Revisited.

It gives you an opportunity to step back from the day-to-day running of your business and look at the big picture. We will watch a video of Gerber sharing his views about what being in business really means, we examine your role as a business owner, and provide insights into how your business can give you more life.

The cost for each person attending is £99 plus VAT. However, K&H clients can attend for free and some free places are available to others as part of our support of the National Campaign.

To book a place on the next Business Development Workshop, email us or call 0118 923 5800.

Future dates for 2010 are:

Wednesday 24 November

All Workshops will run from 9.30am to 1.00pm and will be held at our offices in Theale.

Now, more than ever, businesses of all sizes are being forced to tackle their problem debtors. Our aim is to help you achieve real results with effective and targeted debt-collection procedures. We will advise you how to improve your chances of getting paid quickly and, if necessary, how to turn a County Court Judgment into cash, thereby arming you with the weapons to help you successfully combat bad debtors.

Kirkpatrick & Hopes
Most business owners do not understand the information contained in a typical set of accounts. Using a case study, we will explain how you can use the accounts to get a real insight into the state of a business’s financial health so you can assess its creditworthiness and avoid the risks of bad debts and slow payment.
